프로세스 시각화 도구인 [visualixir](https://github.com/koudelka/visualixir) 는 Elixir 의 [여러 기능들 중에서도](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvBT4XBdoUE) 아주 흥미로운 기능들 활용한 프로젝트입니다. Elixir 는 실행중인 프로그램에 별도의 debugger 를 연결하지 않고도 프로세스 간 전달되는 메시지, stacktrace 를 확인할 수 있는 [trace](http://erlang.org/doc/man/dbg.html) 기능을 가지고 있습니다. 덕분에 프로그램이 실행중이더라도, 디버깅을 위한 코드를 추가하지 않고 프로그램이 어떻게 동작하는지, 어떤 상태를 가지고 있는지 꽤 자세히 확인할 수 있습니다. 이것만으로도 충분히 흥미로운데, visualixir 는 여기서 한발 더 나아갑니다. Elixir node 간에 (컴파일된) 모듈을 전달하고 필요하면 실행(!?) 할 수 있는 기능을 활용합니다. target node 에 필요한 기능이 없어도, visualixir 는 자신이 가진 모듈을 target node 에 전달해, target node 에 원하는 기능을 추가할 수 있습니다. 저는 visualixir 코드와 구조를 분석하고, visualixir 가 프로세스의 관계를 표현하는 방식에 대해 이해하기 위해 visualixir 의 프론트엔드 부분을 Observable 노트북으로 가져와 실험해보기로 했습니다. *이 포스트는 [visualixir@db98af](https://github.com/koudelka/visualixir/tree/db98af227991027b84737125d5799f33562a664f) 을 기준으로 작성했습니다.* ## How it works visualixir 는 2 개의 모듈로 이루어져 있습니다. * 웹 페이지의 소켓 요청을 처리하는 \`visualixir_web\` 모듈 * target node 에 tracer 모듈을 보내고 trace 수행하는 \`visualixir\` 모듈 tracer 모듈은 target node 에 로드된 후 target node 의 프로세스들과 발생하는 이벤트 (\`spawn\`, \`exit\`, \`link\`, \`unlink\`) 를 추적합니다. 프로세스를 선택하면 프로세스가 송/수신하는 메시지를 추적합니다.`32:T5e0,md`## Run visualixir 를 실행하는 방법은 다른 Elixir 프로젝트를 실행하는 방법과 비슷합니다. 다만, visualixir 가 실행될 node 에 이름 (\`--sname\`) 과 쿠키 (\`--cookie\`) 를 반드시 설정해야 합니다. visualixir 가 trace 를 수행할 target node 도 필요합니다. target node 로는 [The Soul of Erlang and Elixir - Saša Jurić](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvBT4XBdoUE) 발표에 사용된 [sasa1977/demo_system](https://github.com/sasa1977/demo_system) 를 사용했습니다.
