### Energy End Use Characterization Figure 1 below shows the anticipated breakdown of building energy use and load component for the current design. Energy sources are aligned on the left side of the graphic, while energy sinks (conduction losses, equipment gains, etc.) are aligned on the right side. Viewed in this way, the energy model assists in identifying additional opportunities within the proposed design to improve the overall energy performance. In the current design, plug loads represents roughly 42% of the total building energy use, followed by space heating energy, lighting, and fan energy which represent another 16%, 13%, and 12%, respectively. The heating is provided by gas boilers with electric reheat coils. Space cooling represents about 8% of the total building energy use owing to the efficient chillers and water side economizers. Pumps and exterior uses consitute the remaining 10% of the building energy use. The design building shows a total Energy Use Intensity (EUI) of ${formatEUI_SI_IP(204.1)}. This does not currently account for the building's service hot water needs.
