31:T42e,## The future of data work is collaboration I led teams of diverse skill sets from startups to big tech companies across different verticals. I’ve experienced the power of collaboration and learned two important things. First, to build highly effective teams, staying “in flow” in your own work and then with colleagues is transformative for productivity. There is magic in staying “in flow” - faster iteration, additive thinking, creative exploration, maybe some joy. Second, the heart of effective teams is “no grumpy humans”. Working with data can be frustrating, especially when you don't have what you need to get your job done. Figuring it out on your own only adds to the frustration. Great things happen when people are empowered to use our creativity and skills together. This is the spirit of collaboration - productive and happy teams. We keep this in mind as we build Observable - support collaboration, keep teams "in flow", and enable productivity. They model and transform data for critical business decisions. \n\nNext up is the development island where software developers are building visualizations, apps, and dashboards to expose the data within the organization. \n\nOn “storyteller” island are the marketers, the product managers, the strategists who are communicating the story around the data across the organization. \n\nAnd then finally, on reading island, are the readers, the people consuming, sharing and browsing information. These people are the stakeholders and the critical decision makers. \n\nWe can instantly see the need for connections. No one person can hold the complete picture of an organization's data. Stakeholders and decision makers throwing questions over the wall with the hope of getting responses back just doesn't work anymore. There are too many points of failure and it takes too long. Organizations are forced to choose between trying to make the best decision they can in the moment or waiting for more information and missing the window of the critical decision. \n \nAll of the people (data practitioners) use different terminology and speak different languages, as it relates to their role and contribution in the data workflow. The lack of common language can breed skepticism and lack of trust. \n\nWe need a new way to connect people around data.
